Before you can dive into using our exciting equipment, all members will receive a short training to ensure safe and confident machine handling. These trainings are free and regularly scheduled — we want you to get started on your creative journey as quickly and safely as possible!

In addition to the mandatory trainings, we’ll offer a wide variety of hands-on workshops — open to both members and non-members. Members will enjoy discounted rates (and sometimes even free participation, paying only for materials!), while non-members can still join for a standard fee.

Our workshops are designed for every skill level — whether you’re exploring CNC milling, laser cutting, 3D printing, embroidery, tufting, digital weaving, woodworking, or sewing. Learn new techniques, create something amazing, and connect with a community of makers.

Machines 101 -

Free Introductions to everything for everyone

Our 101 courses are the starting point for using machines in the makerspace. They’re short, friendly introductions designed to help everyone work safely, confidently, and independently. Each machine has its own 101 session, and you must first complete the relevant 101 course before you are allowed to work on the machine. The goal isn’t to overwhelm you — it’s to make sure you feel comfortable, know what’s possible, and understand how things work in our shared space.

101 courses are led by instructors and focus on the essentials: safe machine use, preparation of files, basic workflows, available materials, and common things to watch out for even without any prior knowledge.. They’re great for complete beginners, but also useful if you already have experience and just need to learn how our machines and processes work.

Non-members are welcome to attend 101 courses to explore the makerspace, learn about different tools, and see if membership is a good fit. Independent machine use is reserved for members who’ve completed the appropriate 101, and membership also unlocks access to workshops, SkillLabs, and advanced project sessions.

Quick questions

Do I need experience?

What should I bring?
Just yourself and your curiosity. Any required materials, tools, or software will be provided or explained during the session.

Alt Makers SkillLab - Free workshops for members

Learn. Design. Create.

Our Alt Makers SkillLab workshops help you deepen your maker skills and explore new techniques — from sewing and laser cutting to CNC and woodworking.
Each session focuses on understanding the process, not just the result: you’ll practice techniques, make one sample together, and gain everything you need to complete your own project later at your own pace.

You’ll go home with:

  • Digital files for a basic model (CNC cutting plans, sewing patterns, or laser files)

  • Instructions to personalize and build your own version

  • Guidance to complete your project in the makerspace afterward

  • Each workshop explores one theme — for example:

    • Sewing for beginners: Reusable makeup remover pads

    • Sewing intermediate: Period underwear

    • CNC beginner: Plant stand

    • CNC & woodworking intermediate: Rotating bookshelf

    • Laser cutting beginner: Puzzle design

    • Laser cutting intermediate: Routine or to-do tracker

What to expect:

  • Hands-on demonstrations and creative discussion

  • Learn practical skills in a calm, theory-based environment

  • Receive all digital resources to continue your project independently

  • Workshops held on Thursdays from 18:00 to 20:00

  • Small groups for personalized attention

Schedule & Access:
